Adding rewards for player restoring landscape

Description: Add bounties system to reward player to restore wilderness (with certain palette of staff selected blocks)

Why: staff won’t be fast enough to restore all the surface level destructions especially near spawn

How: Add small rewards per chunks, could be varied by difficulties

Pros:

  • First point: more beautiful landscape
  • Second point: preserve beauty of wilderness, provide job for idle players
  • Third point: another avenue for player income

Cons:

  • First: might need regulations (not much of a hassle imo, I will volunteer to suggest regulations if needed)
  • Second point: might ruin economy if reward too unbalanced

This doesn’t seem like a bad idea actually.

But how would we go about implementing a way to tell if something is destroyed or not?

I propose we make a new regulation in regard to mining and extracting resources in wilderness.

For example:

  • tree must be replanted with its sapling
  • dirt, podzol, and mycelium (and its derivatives) are not allowed to be extracted from the wilderness
  • stone/ice/NPC structures should not be mined entirely, only inside it is allowed (so from outside it all looks intact)

For example: mining stone is only allowed on Y … To Y … (Y level determined when standing and opening F3) Outside of that is not allowed on wilderness

Same thing could be implemented to diamonds, coal, etc.

So wilderness will have resources unmined/unextracted that only people who claim it could take it. I propose we reserve the Y range richest in minerals and respurce to the people claiming it. This way there is merit to claiming lands.

There should also be amendment to claiming. You can’t claim then unclaim to mine. Or at least add time range to unclaiming land. After 10 minutes (to give newbies time to correct mistakes, all land cannot be unclaimed until X period.

There should be penalty for breaking this rules that could also subsidize for people restoring the land.

Maybe others could elaborate more but imo this is needed to preserve mythic wilderness and not allow mindless mining/extraction.

I think this is a good idea and I got a simple solution to this:

  • Add a channel on discord for example “Reward claim”
  • Ppl will submit their job of restoring a chunk including: landscaping a destroyed terrain or breaking down buidlings of disbanded faction
  • Submit form:
  1. Coordinate of the chunk
  2. Date
  3. Before and after pictures
  • By the end of the day or week or month, a staff can go through all job submitted and may even go to the chunk to check if its actually been done to grant the reward
  • The reward doesn’t need to be crazy, I’m thinking 10k a chunk restored is already good enough as a part time job

Too restrictive imo.

Also not viable to do that much moderation on wilderness destruction, consumes way too much time.

My overall problem with this idea is I struggle to see any solution that ends up taking up less staff time than tping to destroyed areas and running //regen at each.

Yeah… No easy method. Easiest would be auto regen chunk after unclaimed. But that would birth new problem unless there are some cooldown to unclaiming.

Near Avalon there are several (to regen) chunks that’s haven’t been regenerated for years… Too many places to regen and staff will not have enough time

I am thinking of it is possible to record a chunk before and after its claimed? If it is possible the server can just immediately revert the chunk to the time before claimed by players

that would take a lot of storage space, regenning with WE works, but has issues due to the entirely world not being 1.18… so the old sections dont regen correctly.

And if you’re suggesting that places be regenned on unclaim that add some other implications…

Oh yeah I forgot that would take much space… Let me think some more for easier solutions…

Forming the landscape restoration squads? Maybe add 1 elite squad that patrol near the spawn. Like 5 chunks every direction from spawn
